During this weekend’s staycation, I have come to discover the most captivating series of all :
The Future of Fashion by Vogue UK.
The documentary presented by Alexa Chung delves into the tapestry of the fashion world and answers the many questions people ask to succeed in the industry. Here are some of the topics covered :
1. How to get a job at Vogue
There is actually no specific path to undertake in order to obtain a position in the renowned magazine. Vogue’s Fashion Director Lucinda Chambers explains us how she started working there via an impulsive call to the company. She had never done anything similar before but, with persistance, managed to get an internship and worked her way up.
2. The various activities that fashion embodies
Buyers, PRs, stylists, creative designers, bloggers, model agencies, trend forecasters… There are inexhaustible possibilities in terms of fashion jobs and new ones are being created every year. The documentary presents new educational masters such as the « MA Psychology for Fashion » at London School of Arts and the « LLM in Fashion Law » at Fordham University. Who knew that could be possible?!
3. The effects of the digital revolution
It’s undeniable that technology is having a huge impact on the fashion industry. Alexa takes us to Paris and New York to meet with influencers that have made of social media one of their main tools for success. Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing and Leandra Medine from Man Repeller are two of the contributors.
4. The Future of catwalks
From the beginnings of Molly Goddard exhibitions to Jacquemus’ strike outside of Dior’s catwalks, the documentary presents the shift in fashion shows' conventions. It’s funny how this last FW season recognises the same evolution pattern for insatnce with Dolce & Gabbana’s millennials or Vetements’ stereotypes.
I highly recommend this broadcast which fed my huge appetite for information like no other before !
